I’m a saver. There. I said it. I am a saver. I save things in boxes. Twenty boxes, to be exact. And not just any kind of box – I save things in shoe boxes.
Who knows what makes a person keep certain things. I’m sure there’s a psychological or personality makeup that dictates such things. In any case, I’m one of those people. I’m definitely not a hoarder of specific things, or a random collector. I save items that at one point were meaningful to my life. I say “at one point” because I’ve been saving for a long long time – some 40 years – and a lot of what I’ve saved seems rather silly and trivial now, but the fact that I saved something in 1979 or 1988, or 1996, or 2001 means that it was important to me at that time.
The beauty of saving in shoe boxes is that they’re rather small, so the items must be limited in size, and you have to be selective with the things you save. An added bonus is that the shoe boxes themselves are a window into the past. Most of the shoe boxes are mine and a quick search for the style shows what I was wearing during a specific year.
